Advent Day 21 is ‘Nana Piano’ by Kelly Lee Owens from her third (eighth?) album “LP.8”. An improvised and melancholic piano track of embodied movements and sounds that gently jars with the otherworldly tracks that precede it. Pitchfork didn’t get it, but that’s no great surprise. An #ambienttechno masterclass.

There were a lot of #AmbientTechno compilations in the '90s. This is another one, with a heavy feature of artists from the Apollo label. Lots of productions from David Morely, plus John Beltran, Pentatonik, and Golden Girls (aka: one-half of Orbital). A decent little CD, but kinda' slight in presentation too.

Ah, hmm. Think I'm a bit harder on this compilation than I needed to be. But when you put "Definitive" in your title, and knowing what's on CD isn't as definitive as could possibly be from Mr. Namlook's massive discography - even this early into his career - one can't help but come away a tad disappointed. Darn marketing gimmicks.

My father did the coverartwork in 1977 in Plitvice Lakes National Park.
