I made a thing!

As part of my ongoing air-exchange-based #HVAC project, I have an outdoor air quality sensor from #AmbientWeather (no sponsorship, I bought it). It's battery/solar powered, and that's fine... except for the part where that doesn't work here in the winter.

But since it plugs in to charge and keeps working when plugged in, winner winner chicken dinner, right?

NO! Because first you have to take the bottom off the case, then the charge plug sticks directly out from the bottom facing down, like a goddamn Apple Magic Mouse.

I can't fix the mouse, but I can fix _this_, and I have made a printable tray and rack system to let you use it that way. Enjoy!

Here's a problem I never thought I'd have... The #AmbientWeather sensor array I've got at #ForkedMeadow #California is within about a foot of being overtopped by the snow. The pole it's on is about 15 feet high if memory serves.

Once it goes under the snow, I don't think the temperature readings are going to be accurate anymore 😂

We're now up to 4" of rain with this #AtmosphericRiver at #ForkedMeadow #California! This is a very moist storm. The rain is hammering on the tin roof. Sometime in the night we had a gust of wind to 15 mph which is blustery for our #AmbientWeather station where it's located in the meadow.

If you scroll back in my timeline, you can see other photos from this vantage over the last few weeks. The #snow remains stubbornly entrenched in the #meadow which is most excellent. #WeatherObservations

So far in this latest storm from the #AtmosphericRiver hitting #California and the central #Sierra, our #AmbientWeather station at #ForkedMeadow has received 3.5" of rain. The temp is 40f. Before midnight, we had 2" of rain and another 1.5" after midnight. The snow is still hanging in there but if it doesn't go below freezing soon, I think it'll all melt away today. Elevation is 6,000' so yes this is a very warm storm!

@COweatherman when I look on #blitzortung or the #AmbientWeather detection network, no other regional detectors are picking it up.

@COweatherman hi! Random lightning detection question... I've got an #AmbientWeather station setup at my parents place with a lightning detector. Every few days it will detect a strike 9-20 miles away. Sometimes there can be multiple detections in a day or weeks of nothing. But in all these cases there are no storms in the region (central Sierra Nevada). Could the detector be picking up transmission line switches operating or similar? They're 10 miles from town and no industry is nearby.
