A new battery technology that uses liquid metal and molten salt could revolutionize the way we store and use renewable energy. Ambri’s grid battery costs $180/kWh to $250/kWh depending on size and storage-duration required, the company says.

However, the company projects that the cost will dip to about $21/kWh by 2030.

It is interesting to note that an analysis by researchers at MIT has shown that energy storage would need to cost just US $20 per kilowatt-hour for the grid to be powered completely by wind and solar.
