A baby ambush bug sitting on a blackberry. I came close to popping the berry into my mouth, but noticed the speck of white just in time.

This is probably the nymph form of a Pennsylvania ambush bug (Phymata pennsylvanica). Normally, these are so well camouflaged that even when you're looking directly at them, and know what you're looking at it's hard to get your brain to register what it is. However, this one decided to sit on top of a black wire fence instead of a flower or leaf.

I’m impressed with the camouflage that an #AmbushBug can achieve, sitting on a flower awaiting a busy bee. Sometimes I only see the bugs after spitting a bee, and wondering why the bee is sitting so still on a flower.
