I grew up in the #SoulTrain and #AmericanBandstand era where it was enough if a song had a good #beat and you could #dance to it. But my favorites had lyrics that were #Poetic and spoke about #CivilRights #Justice and #Activism. One of those, #WakeUpEverybody , was written by McFadden, Whitehead and Carstarphen and sung by #HaroldMelvinAndTheBlueNotes featuring #TeddyPendergrass. There are several more recent covers but this one's my favorite.

When I was growing up I came home from school to an empty house as both my parents worked and I was an only child. I watched #AmericanBandstand and fell in love with #doowop music.
