And by the way, this photograph is just raw, i.e. completely unedited. It's almost too easy to take great pictures in the American West...

“America’s story had always closely aligned with that of Exodus—the tale of a people who left behind an oppressive Old World to enter a wilderness and ultimately build a divinely inspired, promised land. How would that promise look? Powell singlehandedly tried to change the American narrative.”

Home, home on the range! The 'antelope' of the American prairies aren't really antelope, they are called pronghorn and they are actually most closely related to giraffes! This buck was part of a small group roaming northern Wyoming.

Kit Carson: 1809-1868 Led campaigns against Navajo tribe in Western America, most infamously to force Navajo to relocate to the Bosque Redondo reservation. Carson and his men destroyed crops, killed livestock. Starving, exhausted Navajo finally surrendered in 1864, and were forced to march about 300 miles to the reservation. The journey, called the Long Walk, was brutal, costing the lives of hundreds of Navajo.

to about 32 years ago, backpacking through the Escalante Wilderness of southern , trying to find a route into Coyote Gulch canyon. We eventually found the route down though almost lost my brother in the process 😅. Coyote Gulch is one of the most beautiful natural places I’ve ever seen: rock arches, waterfalls, and deep half-dome-shaped undercuts into canyon walls 400 ft high with fern gardens growing deep in the shadows.

It's Wild Horse Wednesday! And this big guy is announcing that he is king of the hill. The south Onaqui herd is out of balance since the 2021 roundup. More stallions than mares, so the guys fight and display dominance more than normal.
