I'm somewhat indifferent. When I'm in the drafting zone, I tend to just leave myself a note to check a thing because research becomes disruptive. Unless I really can't move on without a piece of information.

But I like looking up new information, especially when it makes a story stronger.

I do my research as I go - probably because I'm a pantser and I don't know what I need to know until I get there in the story.

Just this weekend, I was looking up info on sturgeons for a flash story just to be sure I'd gotten right what I thought I knew. The story was basically done. (And I didn't have to rework anything based on new research, phew!)

One time when I was little, the dog swallowed my mother's diamond earring. For the next few days, she had to follow him around poking through his shit to find the stud. That's me revising. I underwrite. Then I pile in all this crap. Then have to rake through it to find the one diamond worth saving. I'm gonna patent it and call it the Dad the Dog Shit Pile Method of Revising.

#WritingCommunity, I generally write everything longhand (#ZeroDraft), then transcribe, editing a bit (or more than a bit) along the way (#FirstDraft or #FirstRevision).

My frustration: That transcription/first-revision process substantially takes longer than the zero draft. Sure, I know the revision process is always arduous, but … still frustrating.

By the way, all y'all who shit a book in three months, please line up. I want to backhand the lot of you. :)
