Plotting my next western train trip. Next year. Buy early or pay even more. Roomette minimum. Perhaps the Ocean from Montreal to Halifax or Chicago to San Francisco. Toronto to Vancouver is a small fortune but one worth indulging in.

In France, they are offering €49 unlimited travel passes. Meanwhile, in #Wisconsin, I just want to be able to go from Milwaukee to Wisconsin Dells and back again on the same day. I would also love to be able to go from Milwaukee to Green Bay or Milwaukee to Madison AT ALL.

In November 2021 #Amtrak #trains were moved to a new route south out of Tacoma, Washington. As a result, passenger trains no longer traveled the scenic route along the shore of Puget Sound. I just got on The Empire Builder in St, Paul and we’re on the way to Chicago. We were pretty much on time and started moving. We got ten feet and stopped as they had to wait for a freight train.

Even with this it is a nicer way to travel.

Unser Zug fährt weiter nach #Roanoke in Virginia und hat damit einen der längsten Zugläufe eines #NortheastRegional. Er fährt schon 8 Uhr morgens in Boston los. Für die 330 km von New York nach Washington braucht er 3 1/2 Stunden. Für die Weiterfahrt nach Roanoke, was auch nur 330 km sind, dann planmäßig 4 Stunden, aber mit einer Stunde Lokwechselzeit und den üblichen Güterzugeinflüssen war er erst acht Stunden später um Mitternacht an seinem Ziel. #Amtrak

@JosephAndriano The current #Vermonter was, for decades, the #Montrealer. There is occasional talk of restoring the route to Montréal again but so far (clearly), just talk. At some point, the Montrealer was rerouted via New London, Conn, and the Vermonter stayed on that routing ... but whatever the issue was years ago has long been fixed and the Vermonter now goes north from New Haven. Unlike the Adirondack, the Montrealer ran all the way down the NEC to Washington, DC.

I haven't kept up with #Amtrak issues for awhile so I'm not up to date. My question is why Amtrak has such a large portion of its fleet out of service. Idle railcars mean lost sales. At least they're starting to address the backlog.

Wie es aussieht, geht es mit den Bundes-Investitionen in die Eisenbahn nun auch langsam aber sicher voran. Es ist wohl nicht ganz unwichtig, die Eisenbahn schon in Kindertagen kennenzulernen. #Amtrak #NortheastCorridor
