I am watching Elysium and it's amazing but you could argue that this is happening now. The movie is a chillingly accurate prediction of what #Amurica is and will be like.
#Amurica makes me so angry. The US as a society blames people that are victims and accuses victims of baring responsibility in their own victimization. Whether it's drug addiction, homelessness, rape/abuse survivors, and whatever other malady someone may be suffering from. Then we have the collective audacity to make it difficult for victims to get help, recover, and restore themselves to being productive people. We make it out of reach of affordability while claiming there's "access" to these services. What is the point of having access to these services when many would be turned away at the door.
Then these same victim blamers say, "Well you welfare leeches have Medicaid that I pay into." Medicaid is the federal poverty level. The federal poverty level no longer means you have a roof over your head. If you have a vehicle, you're living out of it. If you have a tent, it's probably pitched on a sidewalk and you're sleeping on hard concrete. Then absent any luck, you're curled up somewhere to at least try and keep the weather out.
This is the reality of life in a capitalist society run rampant and without regulations. This is a society that irrationally only cares about its wealthiest and famous. I am writing this long blog post because I am angry and want to calm down.
I am concerned about the friend I made. She needs services and she's getting turned away at the door. She's a good and decent person unlike Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk who are, just plain psychopathic and vile.
My short term disability claim got denied from The Hartford so please tell me why I fucking pay into it. Now I am going to have to go back to work earlier than planned because in #Amurica, you work until you die if you're not wealthy. Start next year's open enrollment, I am opting out of it. I needed it because of my mental health issues and they'd rather be profitable. Fuck insurance!
Insurance is the second biggest legal scam behind multilevel marketing companies. Or it has to be tied between stock brokers and financial planners.
@VeryBadLlama Sadly, the parallels between #Amurica and Ancient Rome are glaring. There's no other way to put it. When corruption, greed, and the decay due to neglect of infrastructure is staring down at us and we do nothing, history is again repeating itself. It's been historically like that for Chinese History. You might consider reading about the Chinese dynastic cycle.
@CoachMark @flexghost It took me becoming disabled to see how broken #Amurica is. I went very hard to the left. I'm pro anarcho-communism.
I think #Amurica is now in the end stages of capitalism. We are well past the late stages. The pandemic ushered in the end stages. I see the dysfunction play out on a day to day basis.
@ChristyLeeHughes This actually needs to grow into a general strike from all professions. We need to bring #Amurica to its economic knees.
@fortboise I have nothing I can cite to back this up but I've heard rumors that Denmark and possibly Norway would open up an immigration window for those fleeing potential theocracy and fascism that could come to #Amurica.
@Ulrich_the_Elder There is some truth to this because the GOP in #Amurica are doing everything they can to prevent people from voting. They know that, in low voter turnout, they win.
@sorenhave @Ruth_Mottram This is an extremely serious problem. Just one of many that #Amurica is ill-equipped to handle.
@Deglassco Hatred, racism, and discrimination is sewn into the very fabric of the flag of #Amurica. I am glad that you make these posts to educate those who might be unaware of this systemic history.
@StillIRise1963 I don't feel so empowered sadly. I feel like most of my fight is just spent trying to keep my head above water and survive the hellscape that is #Amurica.
@Outersider That's why I refer to the country that I stay in as #Amurica. It's the shithole nation of the western world.
