Because she believes entirely in her mission. She believes she's protecting the world from a violent threat, that that protection requires sacrifice and vigilance. It's not even a hard call, for her.

I read that lengths in the industry are minimum 50K words, and the sweet spot is 70K to 100K.

I'm so relieved! I thought it was 120K! My book will probably arrive at 70K, maybe a little less. A short novel, not another unsellable novella.

While we're talking measurements in SF worldbuilding, decide what time-telling method you're using. 24 hours? Would people even still be on an Earth-based schedule? If so, do they tell time using AM/PM or military time? How consistent across your civilization is this method? Who does it different and why? (Always an important question.)
