I have mixed feelings about this kind of rejection letter. I'm supposed to like it, and I think editors should send me more of these, but it hurts to know you "almost" made it. That you are not good enough. That is the feeling that this leaves at the back of your mind, especially as you are already battling with imposter syndrome.

Had a weird idea the other day. It festered in my subconscious until I was trying to get to sleep last night, when it burbled back into my consciousness and demanded attention. Was forced to sit up and jot down an outline and the start of a short story. It's a kind of funny feminist fairytale.

Mein tiefster Dank geht raus an alle Schreib- und IT-Göttinnen. Und Götter. Meinen Erstgeborenen kann ich mangels Vorhandensein nicht aus Dankbarkeit opfern. Würd ich aber. Ich schwör.
