Mechanical computers are gloriously steampunk. Those gear trains could have been made nearly two hundred years ago, with the proper motivation.

Also, I thought to myself "I wonder if that's the same unit CuriousMarc has featured in some videos" and of course it is. If you haven't seen his stuff, I recommend giving it a shot. I've seen static images of these devices before - seeing them in motion is something else.

We did in one of my electric circuits labs at #MiddlesexCountyCollege in New Jersey, in the early 1980s.

Also who has seen magnetic #core memory in use? I saw this at the Philadelphia Int’l Airport control tower in the late 1980s. (I did not stick with air traffic control development, so don’t ask me questions.)

That's if you want an actual analog computer; you can do the same types of simulations digitally with things like Simulink (obviously digitally though).

I mean... if you wanted to go crazy you'd probably get a few analog blocks, lay them out with KiCad, make them at JLCPCB, and start writing it up... hmmm
