All change today. Typical Scottish weather of wind and rain.
70 miles, might have been a tad few many....
Leaving home ground behind, heading West. A few km in the bag and camp one.
Cycle loaded up, ferry tickets bought, food for a few days, 3x rolls of Santa Color and my Minox 35ML, sunshine forecast.
Heading over the sea to the Outer Hebrides.

I may have made a better image this afternoon... :)
Yellow Flag Iris, Scotland.
6" x 8"
100% Flag Iris paper (homemade), approx 50g.
Cyanotype from digital negative, from paper negative, 40 mins exposure.
That's it now until I return from a canoeing trip next week.

Cyanotype experts.
Any thoughts on printing on to non-white paper surfaces. I'm getting very 'dim' results using homemade paper that is a light brown/buff colour. Paper is made from Iris leaves.
I'm thinking, right now, that cyanotype on the 100% Iris paper won't work.
Everytime I coat the paper it is as if the chemistry is reacting with it...? I will make an exposure but end up with just a blue piece of paper, no image...

On my way home from grocery shopping today.
New blender purchased today. Tested on my return home. All good....
Another six sheets of 100% Iris paper drying.
100% Yellow Flag Iris paper.
Eleven sheets made.
Some significant learning in the process:
It's not as easy as it looks, especially to get both an even thickness and just the right thickness of sheet...
With Iris, maybe adjust the cooking time to be slightly longer.
With both recycled material and natural - blend more than I think.
It's quite fun, if you like a wet & messy activity..!
Mold & Deckle constructed. Final size 9.5" x 14".
I now have 1.5lb of Flag Iris cooking. My 1st attempts will be just that...
Intention is to make two papers, initially:
1x 100% Flag Iris
1x 50% Flag Iris + 50% recycled Cardboard.
Moving on, will be the use of seaweed as a Formation Aid, the addition of internal sizing, use of different plant fibres, addition of local sourced Mica to give a different texture, & finally using the papers for Cyanotype printing.
Been sowing seeds.
Mostly salad type stuff, plus carrots, kale and Huauzontle - so even this late sowing it should all make it through till autumn...
Also some Borage, Calendulas and French Marigolds - just because.
I'm going to have a go at making paper... Using natural fibers found in the garden.
Then I want to print Cyanotypes onto the paper.
First to collect the materials to process the paper, then materials to make paper, then make paper.
