Sticking with #hardbop & #NowSpinning #Cookin’ with the #MilesDavis Quintet, another fantastic repress of the #Prestige series by #AnalogueProductions. #Relaxin’ remains my favourite of this run of early Miles, but some of the playing here is smoking. The line up is, once again, incredible, the set list nigh on perfect, with that irresistible swing that just makes you want to get up and dance.

It’s yet another #KevinGray cut & is perfect.

Home after a hard day at work & so, naturally, I’m #NowSpinning #Relaxin’ with the #MilesDavis Quintet.

This is cut by #KevinGray for the #Prestige series by #AnalogueProductions & it’s a really close call between this & the recent Craft Small Batch one step cut by #BernieGrundman. I’m glad to have both, & most times incline towards the Craft - but the AP is smoother - which suits the music on a night like this :)

Returned from a few days away, & I’m #NowSpinning #Steamin’ with the #MilesDavis Quintet from the recent repressed #Prestige batch from #AnalogueProductions.

As is typically the case with this series, this is a #KevinGray cut & sounds utterly sublime. I do have the 1989 OJC with which to compare & the AP wins out by a margin with greater punch, better tone on the horns & more space.

The pressing itself is flawless & the jacket high quality.

Start of the long weekend & I’m #NowSpinning #JohnColtraneWithTheRedGarlandTrio. I sometimes get lost with the later more experimental #Coltrane, but this #Prestige stuff is definitely my jam.

This particular album is suited to spring sunshine, good coffee, but still has enough edge to make me sit up & listen. I love #PaulChambers & here he smokes.

This is the #AnalogueProductions reissue & it’s impeccably done: flat, flawless, & dynamic.

Sunlight streaming through the window, & I’m writing & #NowListening to #GetzGilberto by #StanGetz and #JoaoGilberto.

Latin #Jazz generally isn’t my thing (although I really, really enjoy #Afro by #CharlieParker - if that qualifies). However, this album has a vibe which is nigh on irresistible: great musicianship, melodic, iconic vocals & it grooves throughout.

This is the reissue by #AnalogueProductions, cut at 45 by #GeorgeMarino & it sounds incredible.

Sunday PM, glass of red wine, & #NowListening to #StrangeDays by #TheDoors.

Not my favourite album, I prefer the bluesier stuff - LA Woman, Morrison Hotel & the poptastic Soft Parade. But this has some really strong stuff - I really like Love Me Two Times and, of course, People Are Strange. & Morrison’s voice is, perhaps, near to its very best here.

This is the reissue by #AnalogueProductions cut at 45 by #DougSax. It’s my only copy: but sounds great.

After the debacle of #MUFC’s humiliation, I’m consoling myself with an Old Fashioned & #MilesDavis. I’m #NowPlaying #KindOfBlue, one of the greatest albums of all time.

This is the #UHQR from #AnalogueProductions cut at 33 by #BernieGrundman. My copy, unfortunately, has a pressing defect on the the first 30 seconds of Blue In Green. Otherwise this is immaculate, stunning, & oh so moving - bested only by the UHQR at 45 (which I also have).

Icy Tuesday evening & #NowListening to one of my favourite records in my collection: #Relaxin’ with the #MilesDavis Quintet.

This is the #Craft Small Batch Onestep mastered by #BernieGrundman. I did read some sniffy reviews, but, IMO, this just blows the OJC & the #AnalogueProductions reissues out of the water.

Tonally, it’s bang on - natural bass, the drums snap, & Miles soars, with just crazy, crazy dynamics. It really is something special.

Pairing blues crooner Witherspoon with jazz titan Webster might seem unusual, but Reprise was owned by Frank Sinatra, who loved both musicians, and no doubt put them together.

This #AnalogueProductions reissue is a revelation, a legit #audiophile reference recording. It's like listening to the master tape.

This is the mono AAA #AnalogueProductions cut at 45 by #KevinGray. I’ve played this a couple of times since it arrived & half-heartedly A-B-ed it against the stereo 45. Both sound incredible & are worth having, but I incline towards the (DSD sourced) stereo.

The mono is definitely punchier (*that* snare on Wouldn’t It Be Nice) with better bass - but this is an album which benefits from space & air.

This is early Evans - #PhillyJoeJones on drums, #SamJones on bass, & it swings harder than Portrait which comes just a year later.

Hard turn away from Aftermath & #NowListening to the sublime #BillEvans Trio at what may be, arguably, peak with #PortraitInJazz. For me, the highlight - in an album of highlights - is the playing of #ScottLaFaro, particularly on Autumn Leaves. Just so so inspired.

This is the #AnalogueProductions 45 from the Bill Evans Riverside Collection. This includes a replacement disk - which is, thankfully perfect. Great pressing, great SQ, great music.

Enjoying an Old Fashioned with Eagle Rare Bourbon & #NowListening to #TakeFive by #TheDaveBrubeckQuartet. For me, Blue Rondo A La Turk is one of the great openings to any #jazz album: it just swings so hard, while Kathy’s Waltz defines cool.

This is the 33 reissue by #AnalogueProductions. I have the 45 which has better definition at the low end. But the 33 sounds incredible - crisp piano - even when the thing is smoking - yet with rich, full tonality.

Fond memories of this: my Dad was a big fan & we’d listen each year as drove to our holidays. Nostalgia aside, I maintain that #GodOnlyKnows is the greatest pop song.

This is the #AnalogueProductions stereo 45 & head & shoulders better than my recent UK reissue & my Dad’s ‘60s stereo. The separation is more natural & realistic which, I think, matters given the complexity of the arrangements.

This, closely followed by #LAWoman, is my favourite of their albums. Viewed objectively, the swings in style shouldn’t work (e.g. Touch Me into Shaman Blues). However, the lush Phil Spector-type arrangements, the musicianship, & #JimMorrison in fine voice, is unique & irresistible.

This #AnalogueProductions reissue mastered at 45 by #DougSax has depth & detail, but thunders when needed.

#NowPlaying #Workin’ by the #MilesDavis Quintet. This has just arrived - #OJC & NM - & so gets the first spin of the day.

This was a conspicuous gap in my Miles at Prestige collection. On a first listen, with no other version with which to compare, it sounds plenty good: clean, dynamic, & rich.

The jacket is light card, but the price was bang on. I’m assuming #AnalogueProductions will reissue this series ‘cos the secondary prices are insane.

#NowPlaying #Moonbeams by #BillEvans from the just superb #RiversideRecordings boxset put out by #AnalogueProductions. This is the most expensive set I’ve ever bought (& probably ever will), but has given me endless pleasure.

#Moonbeams sees Chuck Israels join the trio following the tragic death of Scott LaFaro & the vibe here is perhaps more laid back as a result. #ItMightWellBeSpring is my favourite of the album - & as lovely as can be.

I think that the recording is maybe just so so, but this #KevinGray for #AnalogueProductions fantastic #Prestige series sounds incredible - balanced, detailed, lush, but pacey where it needs to be.
