The path from the 1858 edition of "Justice" to the 1860 revised and expanded version was anything but straight. Here are some markers along the way, taken from Proudhon's correspondence: https://www.libertarian-labyrinth.org/working-translations/p-j-proudhon-correspondence-related-to-the-studies-in-popular-philosophy/

It appears that in 1914, "Everybody's Magazine" had a competition for the "best letters about rum," and gave cash prizes to the 96 best entries. Henry Olerich earned a $5 prize for his letter. But when I looked at the list I discovered that mutualist anarchist Herman Kuehn earned a $50 prize for being in the top 11. #anarchisthistory

"Mr. Dyer D. Lum, whose name is well known to our readers as author of several articles of unusual merit in these columns, met with a sad railroad accident lately, by which his leg was broken. Great sympathy is felt for him by his fellow-townsmen of Northampton, who, as the Springfield Republican states, 'kindly remembered him Christmas week with a gift of $200.' His friends at a distance will share our own pleasure at this richly deserved tribute of esteem." — The Index, Jan. 6, 1876 #anarchisthistory
I’m a great George Woodcock fan. The photo, taken in 1942, also includes Mulk Raj Anand, George Orwell, William Empson, Herbert Read, and Edmund Blunden. Woodcock stands leftmost in the picture, hands in pockets.

NEW TRANSLATION: P.-J. Proudhon, "The Miserere" (1845) — an interesting bit of biblical criticism from Proudhon, focused on David's confession after the murder of Uriah. https://www.libertarian-labyrinth.org/new-proudhon-library/p-j-proudhon-le-miserere-1845/

How ironic. The publisher reprinting Abbie Hoffman's "Steal This Book" was one of the ones suing the #InternetArchive -- Hatchett Publishing!

I used to have a copy of Abbie Hoffman's "Steal This Book" (gifted to me by an poet activist buddy) but someone stole it from me! Appropriate!
"Steal This Book is a book written by Abbie Hoffman. Written in 1970 and published in 1971, the book exemplified the counterculture of the sixties. The book sold more than a quarter of a million copies between April and November 1971. The number of copies that were stolen is unknown.
"The book is, in the style of the counterculture, mainly focused on ways to fight against the government and against corporations in any way possible. The book is written in the form of a guide to the youth. Hoffman, a political and social activist himself, used many of his own activities as the inspiration for some of his advice in Steal This Book."

It looks like Lewis Masquerier first wrote to the "Boston Investigator" in March, 1834. And in the issue following that in which his letter appeared there is a letter from Ann Tabor, his future bride. As far as I have been able to determine, Ann wrote two letters to the "Investigator," including this one and one signed Ann Masquerier in 1863. She was then the subject of two obituaries, including a sweet tribute from Lewis, in 1873.
Ann's original letter lacked any indication of what state she was writing from, so it was initially unclear whether the proximity of the 1834 was an indication that the two already knew one another. In "Sociology," however, Lewis mentioned that he met Annie Tabor in Bradford, Vermont during or after the winter of 1835-1836. So the appearance of letters from Lewis Masquerier and Ann Tabor in consecutive issues of the "Investigator" in 1834 is just a fine coincidence.
And, as it turns out, Bradford, VT is seven miles north, across the Connecticut River, from Orford, NH, home of Eliphalet Kimball (who would eventually also be a contributor to the "Investigator.")
