The Painted Hand ruin is part of the Cutthroat Castle unit of Hovenweep National Monument. Sleeping Ute Mountain is visible in the background. Sadly, this area has been closed since 2018 because a private property owner refuses to allow access through their property.

If you were to just stumble upon this place with no signage to guide you, you could be forgiven for assuming you were strolling through a landscape garden - albeit one defined by a harsh bleak beauty.
