Major #genealogy discovery tonight! For years, I couldn’t find the #marriage record of my uncle and aunt. On #Ancestry, I stumbled across a #marriagelicense #index entry for a woman with my aunt’s first name and my uncle’s last name. I cross-checked the grooms index-no corresponding entry! Armed with the license number and date, I searched DORIS (#nyc online vital records). I pulled up the #application, license, and marriage certificate…everything I needed! Mystery solved! #geneadons

The other night, I translated the #birth record of Józefa Boniakowska (1882-83), the #stepdaughter of a distant relative. I downloaded it from #Geneteka #poland. One thing that always sidetracks my #genealogy work is coming across an old #highschool #yearbook. MI do look for my “person of interest” but I’m fascinated by how the #students dressed, what the #teachers looked like, what #sports and #activities were offered, the #theme of the book, and the #advertisements. Tonight, I flipped through one from 1928 from #grandrapids #michigan. Michigan Bell ran an ad inviting the female #grads to apply to be an #operator. #geneadons #Ancestry #history

Tonight’s #genealogy project was the #translation of the #death record of Antonina Załęska, who was the SIL of my grandaunt by marriage. I downloaded the record from #Geneteka #poland. It was written in pre-revolutionary #russian. Like most #ancestors from that side of my #family she was born and spent her whole life in Ciechanów, north of #Warsaw in modern #Masovian #Voivodeship. Today I have again successfully used "floating trees" within #Ancestry to crack relationships with several #AncestryDNA matches, including matches who haven't connected their DNA result to their Ancestry tree. Am well on the way to ID a match with no tree at all.

I really didn't realise how powerful the technique was going to be!
