I'll never give up my HP-80. Batteries are shot but otherwise it still works.

I bought this many years ago from a junk shop the city of St. Paul used to run out of a moribund urban mall to get rid of its surplus equipment: old traffic lights, parking meters, and whatnot.

Reverse Polish Notation! No "equals" key.

It's business-oriented, though, rather than "scientific."

(Slide rule for scale.)

Good stuff from the good old days.

We take technology for granted but advanced technological scenarios may have existed in ancient times, better than what we know now!

Can you get muscle-memory Alzheimer's?
I know 45 years ago there was some sort of a wiggle-push-flick thingy to get the massive memory modules to click into place, but now they won't.

They. Just. Won't!

I've got a light shining on the slots, which have been blown out with compressed air, the locating notches are the right way around, the modules go into the slots nicely, but won't seat, or occasionally seat at one end, with the latch clicking closed in a very smug manner, and the other end raising up like the bow of the Titanic just before sinking.

(The theory is, that if I post about this, the universe will conspire to make me look like a doofus, and they'll clip in like there was never a problem …)

This video is about the log fitting on your back.

Inca style ropes still in use today on the Q’eswachaka swinging bridge have been strength tested to around 4000 lbs. The rope is made from tightly woven plant fibers (ichu grass). Similar ropes would have been used in megalithic construction.

Guess what? The Romans had self-healing concrete!

I love how the critical component was long dismissed as due to "poor quality control" until this team figured it out. 😏

Their habitat in ancient times and in the Middle Ages was considered Africa, usually the territories south of Egypt: Nubia, Kush, Ethiopia, occasionally - the countries of Southeast Asia. Sometimes they were described as creatures of unusually tall stature.
The origin of the legend of the Blummies is perhaps related to a real tribe with this name, who lived in Nubia and fought with Roman troops. On their armor and shields, they often depicted large human faces, and from afar it could really seem that these were their own faces at chest or abdomen level. Looks like this was another breeding experiment from the past , or something that might prove that these experiments were in multiple varieties.

Look at this beautiful machine. The blade is high-carbon, high-chromium D2 steel, and the handle scales are copper. A lot of high-tech chemistry and engineering going on here along with awesome ancient technology.
