This game, Sprouting Potato's Dice Tribes: Ambitions, is shouting out to be used in #AncientWorldHistory classes. As I am taking a hiatus from teaching that for a few years, perhaps you should pick up the torch & try it w/ your kids.

So one of the things that is difficult for the Interactive History project is getting detailed enough research for an ancient historical figure (enough to speculate about the choices they made and might have made.
I'm so excited to finally be able to point my advanced 9th grade readers who are working on Roman research topics for their Interactive History project to excerpts from my book for Cicero and Caesar support https://www.amazon.com/Rivalries-that-Destroyed-Roman-Republic/dp/152673317X/
On sale, btw

Playable demo of this developing strategy game of Bronze Age empires is now available on Steam. It's exciting to see all this attention on #AncientWorldHistory when most games focus on more modern periods.

It is time for the annual semester-long Interactive History project for my #AncientWorldHistory ninth-graders
The research paper and Twine interactive history of the past 5 or 6 years now has a #HistoricalBoardGame design option.
This week I announce the project and get them thinking about identifying a historically specific agent or archetypal agent from world history pre 700 CE. Next week, the special research paper begins.

Today as a gentler return to second semester for my #AncientWorldHistory ninth graders that was still intellectually challenge, I gave students a list of features of agrarian states + societies & they took notes while playing Ozymandias https://store.steampowered.com/app/1768280/Ozymandias_Bronze_Age_Empire_Sim/ A 300 word reflection is due tomorrow on the features Ozymandias includes or does not include.
Also introduced abstract as a concept in the context of Ozymandias using abstract concepts like "wealth" "food" "technology" and "power".
So several things that are coming out of these student reflections on the use of video game in #AncientWorldHistory. The pique in curiosity that accompanies seeing a game and noticing what is included and what is not. I always appreciate having that reinforced by students
The completely-unplanned realization, however, is that the super detail of city builder Nebuchadnezzar and the abstraction of Ozymandias make for a terrific comparison of two different approaches to the ancient world.
Getting some feedback in from students about this year's significantly increased number of games in #AncientWorldHistory (9th graders). Not a scientific survey; rather action research where I read the feedback with a critical eye to get insights about what is working, but also what really is not.
Delighted that some of my strongest (like amazing) traditional learners articulate a personal appreciation for what our use of games has done for agency, inquisitiveness, choice-making and so on.
