Worth mentioning and showing here is the guy in full Katipunero costume that greeted visitors to the sculpture at the Post Office. Don't know who that lady biker is. Pretty sure that's not me.

We all then navigated the crazy, not-bike-friendly streets of Manila and got to the Bonifacio Shrine a.k.a. Kartilya ng Katipunan a.k.a. Heroes Park.

We stopped outside Tutuban in Manila where... surprise, surprise... there's a statue of you-know-who.

Then we stopped at the sculpture of the KKK -- "Kataastaasan Kagalanggalang Katipunan ng mga Anak ng Bayan" -- or simply, #Katipunan. If you've been following along, you can guess which one in the group is #AndresBonifacio 😉

Somebody had #bike trouble and, because we don't leave anyone behind, the rest of us stopped at a convenience store.

Then we visited Pugad Lawin High School in #QuezonCity, and biked all the way to the Monumento rotunda in #CaloocanCity which had been cleared for the day's celebrations. We were allowed to sneak thru because we walked our #bikes and it was still very early.

Meetup was at campus. We rode out around 7AM. 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️ First stop was the #AndresBonifacio statue at the University of the Philippines.

Funny. I never noticed that statue there before. 😶

There were people there setting up for their #BonifacioDay event. They said that they do it every year. What exactly do they do? No idea. We just took some #photos and got out of their way. 🤪

Today in the #Philippines we are celebrating National #Bonifacio Day to commemorate a national hero #AndresBonifacio. https://nationaltoday.com/bonifacio-day/ He led a revolution against the Spaniards who made slaves out of our people. Bonifacio was poor and couldn't afford school but he continued his education by reading any #book he could get his hands on. Today, a holiday, I plan to do the same: #read.

Several good reasons to join that group ride:

- they look after the newbies
- they welcome weaker #cyclists and won't leave anyone behind
- they like to promote local #tourism
- I get to explore places that I couldn't on my own
- the #food stops are mostly small businesses 😋 (7-Eleven doesn't count, but it's easy enough on the wallet)
