A lot of it is motivated by fear and self loathing. The right is so good at manipulating those feelings and convincing them to project rather than reflect.

Exactly. I keep thinking they'll finally realize they are strung out & stop the coke binge they're on, but no one is able to get through to them. That's why I was so heartbroken about #AndrewCallaghan getting canceled. I think he had the potential to do that. His documentary felt like a way forward.

There is no right or wrong way to handle speaking out about abuse, it really depends on what you're hoping to relieve in yourself. In the case of the women speaking out on TikTok about Andrew Callaghan, the sad thing is Callaghan can just come out now, and he has, with some bullshit like "Yes, I was stupid, I need to learn to be better, we all need to talk about consent" and it's done, I mean that's how it is for men facing accusations of even the most clear cut and violent assault. As a victim of child abuse, I can say with full confidence that this result would cause further harm to me. The context is obviously not the same for me, my lens has been moulded in a way that makes me see this differently. And it's not about learning how to be a victim correctly, but asking yourself what you need in order to heal. I feel for these women, they shouldn't have had to go through it in the first place, I wish there were easier and more effective ways for them to have dealt with it. You want to see your abuser hurting the way you did, but that horse has bolted. It will never happen because the problem is deep, and vast, and perpetuated by religion and capitalism and everything in between. Raise better sons. That's the only way you can mend it.

I love NPR. Their reporting is definitely better than cable news, but they can't admit that they're not paragons of virtue. They wouldn't listen to those people because deep down they think they are better.

Since some of this will be critical, I will start out by saying I've been watching #AndrewCallaghan since his All Gas No Brakes days and I think he's a great reporter. Some of his best attributes shine in this documentary!

The empathy he shows for the people involved and the way he calls out media for their role was just perfect. He gives me hope, which has been in short supply lately.
