Angiosperms fossils from Middle Jurassic discovered in NW China.
A Chinese research team has found angiosperms fossils from the Middle Jurassic in northwest China, according to the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology (NIGP) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Nanjinganthus has been rexamined with Micro-ct and this seems to elucidate more angiospermous features, such as ovules within oviaries.

I'm very interested to see how this turns out. I'm not familiar enough with #angiosperm floral anatomies to comment, but it would be amazing if this does come out as an angiosperm. Unfortunately, the features they're identifying seem kind of ambiguous.

A #Microraptor investigates some strange colourful plants - the first #flowers she’s ever seen.
This started out as an idea to do a piece on #angiosperm evolution, but that turned out to be a way deeper and more contentious issur than I thought. Molecular evidence says they go way back to the Devonian! So these #lingyuananthus flowers are only new to this Microraptor because they were still fairly rare, not because they were truly new.
