The @behaviour2023 conference comes to an end. I'm very happy I had the opportunity to present my work about cognitive control in archosaurs🦖 , for the first time with a talk in person.😀
Thanks to Berenika Mioduszewska for the picture.

Are you prepping a course on #AnimalCognition #Learning #Memory #AnimalBehavior #AnimalBehaviour ?
A couple of years ago, we wrote a paper on teaching these topics and included a 60 page (!) resource with links to videos, podcasts, and activities, organized by topic, on OSF. I mention it here in case it's helpful to you!

"Breeding threatened mammals in fenced, predator-free areas is a common conservation strategy in Australia. The method is designed to protect vulnerable species and breed animals for release into the wild.
But our research – involving a cute, digging mammal known as a woylie – suggests the strategy may put animals at a distinct disadvantage once they’re fending for themselves.
We found animals bred in fenced conservation areas, known as “havens”, lost traits they need to detect and escape predators. It’s likely this made them less able to survive in the wild." #science #conservation #Australia #marsupials #CaptiveBreeding #animals #nature #endangered #AnimalBehaviour #rewilding #woylies #bettongs #mammals

I've just watched two robins knocking seven bells out of each other on the lawn (standard for this time of year) only for a male blackbird to come storming in to break up the fight.
What's that about?! #birds #BirdWatching #AnimalBehaviour

A few years back, my partner Rodney built a ledge on the side of our house for robins to nest (it was better than the propane fireplace exhaust box!). Since then, starting every spring there is a series of about 3-4 broods.
Here's Mrs. Robinson, taking a break from sitting on her eggs. Mr. Robinson is always nearby, alarm calling if I get too close.
