I know that animal experimentation has been a valuable tool for science and discovery, but perhaps things need to change, considering long tailed macaques are now considered endangered. This part in the article says it quite well:

"However, some studies show that primates are poor predictors of results in humans and in response, Congress recently passed the FDA Modernization Act which removes the legal requirement to test on animals before human clinical trials.

New, animal free methodologies like cell-based and “organ-on-chip” tests, are increasingly being utilized by scientists.

“The ill-conceived era of relying on stolen, diseased, distressed monkeys to cure human disease has never worked and is coming to an end, hopefully in time for these species to recover in their natural habitats,” said Jones-Engel."

A rhetorical question, as " 99% of clinical trials testing potential AD therapeutics have failed, despite the same therapeutics being successful in preclinical stages where transgenic mice were used."

As the US FDA no longer requires animal testing for new medications/drugs, there is no reason to continue this antiquated and barbaric practice.

"Extended acoustic interactions with a humpback whale (Megaptera novaeangliae) were captured via playbacks of the purported “throp” social call and hydrophone recordings of the animal’s vocalized responses during August 2021 in Frederick Sound, Southeast Alaska. Fluke photographs identified the animal as a female named Twain (HappyWhale.com identity SEAK-0401) first observed some 38 years ago. We document Twain’s life history via sightings made over almost four decades. The observational history gives illuminating snapshots of the long history of the individual behind the acoustic interactions."
