We spent the day praying to the Sun. We took a deep breath on the boat that went around the lake. We played drums to trance music. We were close to the spirits, the little forest idols. I dreamt of loving her here and now, on the grass, under the trees.
I looked at our child, who was memorably beating the drums humming her own story about the Sun and Nature.

As a sorceress, once belonging to a Masonic order and now all alone practising animism together with a girl who declares herself a stubborn atheist, we make an odd couple. She feared for the child; but she sees the girl growing up with great respect for nature and animals and says nothing. Eventually, she herself began to participate in my prayers and mindfulness.

Sometimes it's hard, it's just hard. There are all sorts of reasons, but there is simply a time in life when it is harder than usual.
People look to others for support, to philosophy, to religion. I'm no exception - I've spent long hours thinking, alone time and praying for support.
I got a recruitment interview with a reasonably good company, but nothing to do with what I was doing at the moment. It wouldn't even be to develop my skills, but something else. I was tempted by the potential peace of mind, working from home, fewer responsibilities.
The company offered me the position, I was delighted.
But then I turned to the gods to help me choose. And it suddenly occurred to me that this would be instant gratification, a stress escape that would if not destroy, then slow down my career for a long time. So I refused.
While I don't know if the gods are in the business of career counselling, sometimes it's good to sit in peace surrounded by soothing things and indulge in reflection. In my case, I come to the best conclusions surrounded by trees and ancient stones, watching the sun's rays illuminate the leaves. This is when I feel in close contact with myself and the spirits of Nature. I can then concentrate and figure out how to cross the minefield called life in relative safety.

"In South America we find many and diverse indigenous traditions, as well as traditions from the African Diaspora, which we will discuss separately. In the native traditions there is a sharp ecological and social difference between the forest dwelling, stateless peoples of the Amazon, represented in the reading for this unit by works of Yanomami theology, some collected by anthropologists and some authored by Davi Kopenawa, a spiritworker and advocate for his people and for the forest, and on the other hand, the Andean cultures of the mountains and seashore, which goes back as far as 3200 BCE, in which can be discerned a series of cultural phases, the latest of which being the empire of the Inca. The distinction between ‘stateless’ and ‘state’ societies, while of heuristic value, should not be taken to imply a lesser degree of ‘development’ or complexity in the former than the latter. In reality, all societies, having all lived through the same span of time, probably exhibit the same degree of ‘development’, albeit in different directions."

Welcome! I'm Siin, a ritual handwork tattooist and multidisciplinary artist based in the high Mojave desert. My work seeks to bring the recipient or viewer into transcendent states, often centered around connection with one's body, the land, and the Divine.

I've recently gotten more comfortable defining myself as a pagan animist. My practice is rather eclectic though rooted in ancestral Chicano & Sicilian practices and folk magic. Because these cultures have been heavily assimilated, I will never claim that any practice or ritual I engage in is "authentic". I am, as most of us are, working with the tools I've been given by the two surviving generations before me, my own interpretation and inspiration, cues and materials from this sacred landbase, and the broader social context.

My partner and I are the owners of #RanchoDeLaLiberta, a regenerative agricultural project and sanctuary here in the desert, currently in its infancy. We host events and people interested in being a part of the sacred work of stewarding abused land.

Veneration of life and creation are at the base of my art and spiritual practice. I'm proud to be the creator of a small human, and hopefully more in the future. Parenthood is sacred to me, and I will occasionally share meditations on it or cute things my kid has done.

I will be opening books to schedule tattoos in the spring. However, I will only be accepting clients selectively. Nights are the best for prayers. Spirits are listening carefully. Or, maybe just I am more focused on connection with them.
But… my favourite time during the day is sunrise. Often I wake up just to see the Sun and then I can fall asleep back just for an hour more to get rest. Then I can go catch metro to work. #pagan #animism

#owl #man is called the #devil in Sandstrom's "Corn is our #blood" #anthropology #book but if you go back far enough, Owl Men were #assassins dressed as a #owl. Owls were seen as servants of #death so they would dress up as an owl to become an #avatar of death through #animism

Whether its a misinterpretation by Sandstrom or changed view of modern #Amatlan, its still interesting #history

I have been connecting with spirits lately to help deal with the stresses of my life. I was on vacation last week and stood with ocean for a long time. I am trying to heed its lessons. I can still draw up the memory of the beach on my skin and it centers me again.
