when I was a kid, I was OBSESSED with #Animorphs Not to spoil too much, but when it ended it joined the ranks of #evangelion and #TheSopranos (actually, Sopranos joined the ranks of NGE and Animorphs) of having a controversial ending the fans hated. Well, some fans. You know the type. I didn’t hate the ending as in “this story isn’t good anymore” but it did make me sob my 11 y/o eyes out, for reasons that I didn’t quite understand as a kid. At the time I thought it was because my favorite series was over. As I got older, I understood more.
Anyways, the author KA Applegate posted an open letter to fans who didn’t like the ending. I posted the last few paragraphs here. :anarchism: :anarchistflagblack: :black_sparkling_heart:
PS I put as much text in the image description as Tusker will allow. Sorry y’all.

On Animorphs #22; I can tell they've switched to ghost writer or a faster writing process because a lot of the language went from simple to repetitive, feels a bit like someone has read the first ones and then was more focused on tone than quality of the writing. Glad to see they're still tackling hard things but...damn, didn't anyone think of finding Saddler?? I guess we'll see when I finish this one in the next little bit.

How many of you read #animorphs as a kid, then tried morphing into your pet?
:ms_hand_paw:
Honestly, I didn't expect the last Animorphs episode to contain a nod to The Matrix
Chipping away at #LinebylineRereadsAnimorphs again with #Animorphs #3 The Encounter, and my notes include some observations that won't fit in the blog post. For instance:
I feel like it’s significant that, when they meet in Cassie’s barn, Cassie is working but nobody else is helping. Or maybe like it should be significant but it’s not? Maybe foreshadowing her role as handling the bulk of the group’s emotional labor later in the series? Or maybe I’m just picking up on it because it seems rude.

TLDW on this @JacobGeller video about #zelda...
#Dark themes in #writing are meaningful because of what they are used to convey, and because that brings a new depth and new ideas to contemplate, not because "darkness" in itself makes a thing more meaningful. The best dark writing uses the darkness to convey ideas and questions which are useful in the real world.
(Also, I love the Applegate quote about #Animorphs and war)

Do you think Chris Houlihan ever gets envious of Erek King?
@kasdeya oh boy i get to talk about #Animorphs!
In Book 39 "The Hidden", an ant is accidentally exposed to the morphing technology and starts to morph into a human. Now, when humans morph into animals, the animal brain/instinct tries to take over. With practice this can be fought against so the animorphs retain control, but it's particularly difficult for them to do when they've tried morphing social insects like ants and termites.
So the situation in reverse, an ant with an ant brain has human consciousness suddenly forced upon it with no way to comprehend what is happening. What does it do? It screams endlessly until Cassie has to kill it.
Cassie, the animal loving pacifist who believes in the absolute sanctity of all life, is so horrified by what is happening the only choice she has is to kill the half ant, half human creature.
gods i love these books
I'm onto book # 13 of the #Animorphs series, I've been mostly listening to them at work or while doing tasks. They've actually been very good. A little dated but also really dark, full of horror and suspense. It actually surprises me a bit since I didn't really read them when I was younger.
It's fascinating. K.A.A. did a great job writing these. I am told there are some that were ghost written that are less enjoyable but I give the series so far a lot of praise for the topics they tackled.
Today I learned that #Animorphs got the premise for the infamous "Starfish Book" (32, wasn't it?) from a #StarTrek episode, and despite being widely considered one of the worst books in the series, did a way better job with it. Not a fan of the deepity going on in the Trek version, philosophizing about how evil and lust and violence are necessary components of our humanity, without which Great Leaders cannot function. Seems like it would appeal to a certain type of wannabe manly-man.
It’s crazy to me that in the book series #Animorphs they had these “Megamorphs” books that were like season finales basically anyways the third and fourth ones were really cool adventures with big ideas but the first two were “Rachel gets amnesia” and “they go to dinosaur times”
