#AnkhMorpork seems like a republic of sorts, though not a good sort. Remembered #Lankhmar as being a republic, but #Wikipedia says technically "no", though kind-of, in practice. The #PirateRepublic was a republic of sorts and #pirate ships were in principle democratic, though generally portrayed as tyrannies, when fictionalized.

@jrbee Other than being a silly question (obvs the fediverse is rammed with #Pratchett fans 😂) I'm going to choose books set in #Discworld, #AnkhMorpork, in particular those that have #Vetinari whose interactions with /all/ the other characters are masterful examples of subtlety and persuasion (sometimes!).. had me laughing out loud every time 😁

Just received a parcel via #diskworld #AnkhMorpork post office. Lucky it had an official receipt, from the Thieves' Guild.
