In case you didn't know you, can follow hashtags in addition to accounts! I've been following stuff like #LanguageLearning #Japanese #日本語 #langtoot #langtwt #immersionlearning #refold #anki and following interesting people I find there.
Looking forward to browsing the replies for other good recs though :)

I know it’s a long shot #fediverse but does anyone have a (n ideally #opensource and #selfhosted) #spacedrepetition or #flashcard app / #Anki alternative they recommend? Currently using AnkiApp on iOS and it’s not bad, but I’d like a self hosted web app that lets me get more granular data about, eg, failed cards, keep it all in-house, not worry about privacy policies, etc.

Does any of you use any kind of spaced repetition software like #Anki or #Supermemo? I'm a user but recently I've been having doubts.
These days, on holidays, I've been reading and making exercises on QFT and the Standard Model, trying to remember many things that I had forgotten. (I hate forgetting stuff I knew and I'm interested in, that's why I began with Anki).
But this material (QFT, SM) seems an impressive amount of work to be converted into flashcards, and I'm not sure if the benefits are worth the effort. Perhaps just revisiting the material in the book from time to time is more useful?
even though this is extremely my shit i now have like 12,000 reviews 😂😭 anything to get this clunky memory to work better than 75% on mature cards #Anki https://www.reddit.com/r/Anki/comments/zncitr/how_to_use_the_nextgeneration_spaced_repetition/
Did #anki to my nephew screaming in the car. Idk how much I retained. :blobThinkGlare:
you should be saying your #Anki answers out loud (and reading aloud, and producing in the language you're learning) because of a little something called the production effect: https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.1177/0963721417691356. I used to tell my students to talk to themselves when no one was around. It really helps!
What are the best flashcard apps? There are many flashcard apps but we highlight three of the top: Anki, Quizlet and NoteDex #flashcards #anki @quizlet #notedex #indexcards https://youtu.be/GlSx4-jfRgQ

I am very excited about the new #AnkiDroid release: https://github.com/ankidroid/Anki-Android/releases/tag/v2.16.2
I had been installing the alpha and beta prerelease APKs from github for a while for the V3 scheduler support and the other new features like improved sync also felt very nice. With scoped storage out the way after 3 years I hope new releases will become more common again. I have been using #Anki for almost 10 years and it's really nice to see the community being so active.

i want to start a competing language learners' forum but explicitly feminist and antifascist. would anyone actually be there but me?
i love some of https://forum.language-learners.org but i saw some "i don't understand why women think they're oppressed" shit on there recently and am turned off. one of the sad facts of the language learning "community" is the overlap between productivity culture, tech, and fascism. it means i am often a very lonely language and #Anki geek. where are my people?

@tuckerteague I used to use Duolingo, but its gamification started to bother me.
I'm currently using Mastodon itself (by following French posters), plus reading books in French (Harry Potter, atm), plus Anki for spaced repetition vocabulary memorization. I still have to figure out what to do about learning spoken French.
