Berlin, here I come!
It's now four years since the last in-person #SWIB conference. #swib23 may well be the last one, so let's try to cherish the opportunity to meet in one place!
I will be an instructor for the #Annif tutorial on Monday, moderate a session & hopefully give a Lightning talk on Tuesday. Looking forward to great talks & ofc dinner and coffee breaks are often the most interesting!
Feel free to stop by if you want to talk about #Annif, #Skosmos, #LLMs, #metadata, #Fennica etc.

Automaattisen sisällönkuvailun työkalu Annif valmis laajempaan tuotantokäyttöön
Annif on Kansalliskirjastossa kehitettävä automaattisen kuvailun työkalu, jonka tarkoitus on sujuvoittaa ihmisen tekemää sisällönkuvailutyötä.
#swib23 Tired of doing subject indexing manually? #Annif helps! Do you want to query heterogeneous Linked Data sources? Lift your cataloguing system to the next level using BIBFRAME? transform bibliographic data into other formats with Metafacture? and manage those processes comfortably using a tool called Nightwatch?
Check out our workshops at SWIB23! Registration is open!

We will meet in lovely lively autumnal Berlin from September 11 to 13 at the Staatsbibliothek.
The automated subject indexing tool #Annif has reached version 1.0 after six years of development!
The 1.0 release signals that it is ready for production use, and that from now on, even more emphasis will be placed on backwards compatible releases to ease future upgrades. Also, there is improved CLI support, preliminary support for Python 3.11, lots of bug fixes and small improvements.

@lysander07 @vrandecic One thing I wondered about - you came to the conclusion that ChatGPT stores knowledge separately for every language. I don't think that's entirely true. For example, I asked ChatGPT in Estonian about a project of mine (#Annif) which is not, AFAICT, described anywhere on the web in that language. But it was able to provide an answer, in Estonian language, that was mostly correct. So it had some sort of internal representation which it could express in Estonian on the fly.
We're organizing a #tutorial of the #Annif automated subject indexing tool on September 11th at #SWIB23 in Berlin. For details, see this post on the annif-users forum: https://groups.google.com/g/annif-users/c/Dk6zJtzvC4E/m/LSSEfzn-BAAJ
Automated subject indexing tool #Annif 0.61 has been released! Many improvements to batch processing functionality, internal refactoring, optimizations and bug fixes. The next release will be Annif 1.0!

We just published a major update of the #Annif tutorial! If you want to get started with automated subject indexing (text classification with a controlled vocabulary) this is a great resource for learning, with videos and exercises: https://groups.google.com/g/annif-users/c/728zcO1tT8k/m/sE9NJzesBwAJ
Hello Mastodon world, I created an account for tooting things related to Annif and other AI and machinelearning stuff especially related to libraries.

We are trying out a new format at #SWIB21: Boothes.
Get into conversation with maintainers or power users of free software tools like OpenRefine, Metafacture, @skohub or take part in an #Annif hackathon.
