This weeks #Lego #FossilFriday is #Plesiosaurus
Found in 1821, and named "near to" "lizard" by Henry De la Beche and William Conybeare. This is because it more reptile like than Ichthyosaurus, another marine reptile that had been found only a couple years earlier.
Plesiosaurus was a 3 meter long marine reptile from the Early Jurassic.
An almost complete fossil was later discovered by the legendary #Mary #Anning in 1823. This fossil is still on display in the Natural History Museum London.

This weeks #Lego #fossilfriday is #Dimorphodon
The earliest known fossil of Dimorphodon is credited to the legendary #Mary #Anning. She found it as Lyme Regis in Dorset in December 1828.
It wasn't until 1859 that is was formally named Dimorphodon by #Richard #Owen. Its name means two shaped teeth, a trait rare in reptiles.
This model was designed by S7venDE and they called it a pterasaur, not Dimorphodon. I gave it that classification, even though it has a weird crest. https://tinyurl.com/5cymf3ak

A hand-written copy of a new short #biography of Mary #Anning composed in the mid-nineteenth century by George Roberts has been discovered. The report of it, as well as link to an open access paper containing the transcribed text, can be found by followng the attached link.

The answer for this weeks #GuessThat #Lego #FossilFriday is #Ichthyosaurus
Originally found by the legendary #Mary #Anning in 1814 #England, Ichthyosaurus is one of the earliest almost complete fossils on record. It's name means fish lizard. This is because it is a great example of convergent evolution. It filled a similar niche as the modern dolphin. Even at 200m years apart, they look very similar.
The largest relative, Shastasaurus, could potentially as big or be bigger than a blue whale.
