Anodizing is an electrolytic passivation process used to increase the thickness of the natural oxide layer on the surface of metal parts, and different voltages leave different oxide thicknesses and thus different colors.

My new yo-yos are here!
Well actually they are new colorways of current yo-yos I already sell. The factory calls this anodizing color Moon Rock White. “But Doc,” you sigh, “you can’t anodize a metal white”.
That’s why these are cool. These yo-yos are finished with a form of alkaline anodizing, which leaves them with a chalky ceramic like coating. They feel really unique. https://forum.caswellplating.com/filedata/fetch?id=128711
I’ve waited months for these to arrive. #yoyo #anodizing
