Mini Metro is an Android game with daily challenges where you can compete against other players. If you don't nogin to Google Play, instead of a nominative leaderboard (which would require getting other people personal data), it shows a bargraph of everyone scores, highlighing where you stand.
A good example of #anonymization, in fact I think this gives more info than a leaderboard!

@cfiesler No misinterpretation. If #Google says that something is " #privacy -focused," about half the time, it's "focused on invading your privacy" while pretending #anonymization when sharing it with their customers makes it all ok.

#I2P and other #anonymization networks with the #torrent protocol adapted to work on them would do a lot better.

Both EU/UK seem aligned but #courtcases are still too far & few between to establish a solid #commonlaw on this aspect of the right to be forgotten in #GDPR.

I'd be wary of even reusing the same server across different #darknets, and spinning up a VM for each is cheap-enough to do with little-enough hassle there's really no good reason not to do it.

@acdha @dalias @Obdurodon Regarding legality, that seems like a problem with the #clearnet more than anything else at that point.

The clearnet should never have been used directly without some layer providing reasonable #anonymization and privacy.

As for spam & LLMs, registration & community moderation can handle that. You get the same sort of result you get on the fediverse now. Malicious servers get defederated and servers that refuse to moderate also.

@geospart @techandcoffee @Stark9837 @ProfCyberNaught Yeah, even with networks that are actually able to obfuscate against observers like #I2P, you're in a bad situation as it isn't improbable at this point that they'll try & ban #anonymization technologies entirely.

If you can, I recommend getting out however you can.

If not, investigating alternative offline/ #sneakernet routing options for technologies like #NNCP & #Usenet might be advisable.

Pro-tip for admins: Enable users to access your resources through #anonymization networks.

The wider the use of #Anonymity tools, the more effective they get. Some use them for normal #privacy, others to stay alive.

Among the lowest friction for adoption are #Tor and #I2P. A #proxy network and a #mixnet, respectively. These are low-latency networks compatible with conventional TCP/IP protocols.

Allow the use of #API clients, so that fingerprinting of users is harder.

All those who can should be hosting nodes for #anonymization networks. The network is stronger and safer the larger it is.

This goes for #I2P and for #Tor.

Sites also should actively support use of those networks, without #Javascript which can be used for deanonymization and thus has no place on them.

Sadly that's still not as good as proper #AsynchronousCommunication like #Usenet or #NNCP nodes for resilience, but it's a start.

@HeidiSeibold Oh, I don't know of any law suit horrors. But as a #DataArchive we do get #ResearchData for publication and the #InformedConsent was either not collected or it has flaws and we cannot take the data. It often hurts when the data would be useful for a large audience. We did find work arounds sometimes in the past which involved very strict #anonymization, to the point where the data lose a large part of their analyses potential 🙁

@Tutanota i just looked through your #privacypolicy, to decide, if i want to provide you "anonymous" usage data, and found this:
> "[…] we generate and store a random ID on your device, which is shared by all accounts logged in on this device. This ID is sent along with the usage test data […]"

Well I am not a #privacy expert, but as far as I know, what you describe here is known as #pseudonymization, which is a complete different thing to #anonymization.
What do you say to this?
