Mini Metro is an Android game with daily challenges where you can compete against other players. If you don't nogin to Google Play, instead of a nominative leaderboard (which would require getting other people personal data), it shows a bargraph of everyone scores, highlighing where you stand.
A good example of , in fact I think this gives more info than a leaderboard!

@cfiesler No misinterpretation. If says that something is " -focused," about half the time, it's "focused on invading your privacy" while pretending when sharing it with their customers makes it all ok.

@ajroach42 @vfrmedia @literalgrill @esther I honestly don't give peer platforms great odds to survive on the because of the copyright nonsense.

and other networks with the protocol adapted to work on them would do a lot better.

@tanepiper @Patrickstewart There was a case in Germany in 2018 that ruled wasn't enough because it was possible to trace back the person linkedin.com/pulse/data-anonym. The in the UK produced a guidance on true & talks about the "motivated intruder test". ico.org.uk/media/about-the-ico. Both EU/UK seem aligned but are still too far & few between to establish a solid on this aspect of the right to be forgotten in .

@iampytest1 @dalias @campuscodi So basically this is the same old "don't expose servers to the " thing?

I'd be wary of even reusing the same server across different , and spinning up a VM for each is cheap-enough to do with little-enough hassle there's really no good reason not to do it.

@acdha @dalias @Obdurodon Regarding legality, that seems like a problem with the more than anything else at that point.

The clearnet should never have been used directly without some layer providing reasonable and privacy.

As for spam & LLMs, registration & community moderation can handle that. You get the same sort of result you get on the fediverse now. Malicious servers get defederated and servers that refuse to moderate also.

🧵 I've long been skeptical of double-anonymised peer review, due to the high prevalence of re-identification, its clash with the principle of transparency, the increased difficulty of identifying author COIs and self-citation, and the often-weak evidence for its benefits.

However...

"Estimating the success of in incomplete datasets":

"We find that 99.98% of Americans would be correctly re-identified in any dataset using 15 demographic attributes. Our results suggest that even heavily sampled anonymized are unlikely to satisfy the modern standards for set forth by and seriously challenge the technical and legal adequacy of the de-identification release-and-forget model."

@geospart @techandcoffee @Stark9837 @ProfCyberNaught Yeah, even with networks that are actually able to obfuscate against observers like , you're in a bad situation as it isn't improbable at this point that they'll try & ban technologies entirely.

If you can, I recommend getting out however you can.

If not, investigating alternative offline/ routing options for technologies like & might be advisable.

Pro-tip for admins: Enable users to access your resources through networks.

The wider the use of tools, the more effective they get. Some use them for normal , others to stay alive.

Among the lowest friction for adoption are and . A network and a , respectively. These are low-latency networks compatible with conventional TCP/IP protocols.

Allow the use of clients, so that fingerprinting of users is harder.

@dalias @blakereid Yep.

All those who can should be hosting nodes for networks. The network is stronger and safer the larger it is.

This goes for and for .

Sites also should actively support use of those networks, without which can be used for deanonymization and thus has no place on them.

Sadly that's still not as good as proper like or nodes for resilience, but it's a start.

@HeidiSeibold Oh, I don't know of any law suit horrors. But as a we do get for publication and the was either not collected or it has flaws and we cannot take the data. It often hurts when the data would be useful for a large audience. We did find work arounds sometimes in the past which involved very strict , to the point where the data lose a large part of their analyses potential 🙁

@Tutanota i just looked through your , to decide, if i want to provide you "anonymous" usage data, and found this:

Well I am not a expert, but as far as I know, what you describe here is known as , which is a complete different thing to .
What do you say to this?
