noticing an increasing irritation with anthropomorphisation. It is not new, of course, old picture books are full of it but has moved away from a cute picture book story to fully blown adult internet behaviour.
The psychology behind this suggests that "attributing emotions, attitudes, mental states, faces, and values to non-human things can help you feel connected to something."

Wonder if I am just more aware of this behaviour because it presents online or if people are feeling more isolated (because they spend so much time online?)

@GreatDismal quoting an Italian MP's suggestion to replace the acronym "AI" with "SALAMI" (“Systematic Approaches to Learning Algorithms and Machine Inferences”) as a way to avoid overly anthropomorphising it. I wasn't taking ChatGPT that seriously anyway, but now I can't stop laughing at it:

“Is this SALAMI intelligent? Can this SALAMI write a novel? Does this SALAMI deserve human rights?”

No, no and no. HAL it ain't. Nor Skynet. It's not even the computer from the USS Enterprise D.

The intensive use of #anthropomorphism instead of actually explaining the design difference between versions 3.5 and 4 is infuriating.

Not to mention, you'd have to be a #moron to actually take medical advice from one of these systems instead of a real doctor.

Myths of animal behavior are often exploited by humans to justify their own behavior. This reminds me of a recent article in ‘New Scientist’ about animals ‘divorcing’ their mates. Anthropomorphism goes both ways.
