Planted russian oregano in my yard ten years ago. My yard is now Russian oregano. I don’t know if all oregano spreads this way, but gardeners be warned. It’s a permanent addition. Good thing pollinator insects LOOOOVE it.

Keep hearing complaints about how brown people’s grass is getting and meanwhile I’m like…

Remember we have more seeds than they have lawns.
Fight on the side of nature.

Here's an idea for the #antiLawn crew.
#SeedBombing is a fun activity that everyone can do, it helps our ecosystems, and is just plain good fun.
Restore a bit of life in your nearest dead green lawn, resurrect that empty lot nearby.
It's easy and almost impossible to trace back to anyone, just saying.

@Shine_McShine I love this and will respectfully add the #antiLawn and #noLawn tags.
@pezmico Ha. Yes, I know. I recall some months back, you were the one who birthed #AntiLawn on here and made it go viral too (well, viral for Mastodon ;) ). So, I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ll come up with next.
Oh, BTW, some months back, I used some of your #AntiLawn memes for my Zoom still photo during a community garden commission meeting. Thanks!
@craftygardennz @firehorsemia would you have a few minutes to look at our #antiLawn memes? 😈
I remember a podcast episode about our weird obsession with lawns (not only in America).
Nice that this topic gets a hashtag here

Need some joy. Show me your un groomed, wild and flowery ex lawns, gardens and bushes.

Anyway I hope you are now fully radicalised #antiLawn and ready to re-wild your bit of planet.
It is easy to feel there's nothing we can do to help our Earth, but even a small lawn can be a huge ecosystem, from the viewpoint of tiny bug or butterfly.
Wild gardens can also be perfectly suitable for leisure and recreation. We have been brainwashed into believing everyone needs a green flat square to sit in. But they are lifeless and dull.
Our kids will have more adventures and grow to be curious and filled with wonder when their environment is richer.

But criticism and peer pressure are certainly a strong force. So we need to start by talking about it. We need to discuss the absurdity of lawns with those around us and get them excited about the alternatives.
If you are renting, this might be even harder or even impossible. But you can try.
Or you could try seed bombs or guerrilla gardening instead. 😏
