@Lind @whatanerd agree with this take. Creating a union is like the highest-effort way to make a difference. There are plenty of other ways to fight back against capitalism, from giving your neighbor free stuff to quitting a job that doesn't appreciate you and give you proper benefits to go work at it from with better benefits. And everything in between! I wish that there were more amplification of folks talking about things in the middle of that range, but it does seem to get drowned out by the focus on unions.

That said, I can kind of see why. Because unions are so high effort, they require a lot of publicity and support to make sure that they don't just get busted right away - for example, the whole Starbucks debacle with Starbucks not even showing up for negotiations. If that s*** isn't publicized, it can be hard for the union to get support and therefore hard for them to be successful. So unions are very motivated to publicize their efforts and make unionizing a big part of the public discourse.

But let's push back against that! We can promote things that are smaller actions that still make a difference. Here are a few that I could think of right off the bat, but other folks can list their own. A lot of this stuff that I'm thinking of probably just falls under , or categories so you might try searching for that type of thing and see if it gets you more of what you're looking for. I tried to throw a few Union-type things in there as well.

* Don't give your employer free money by working extra hours. Only work as much as you're paid
* Talk to your coworkers about salary and benefits. That way people know if they're not being paid a fair salary
* Shop local, if you need to buy something and avoid buying things whenever you can
* Join your local group
* Organize a free stuff swap in your neighborhood
* Get in the habit of lending your neighbors things, and see if they will lend you things in return. For example, yard tools, things with wheels like wagons and carts, grills, kitchen appliances, cleaning tools like vacuums and carpet cleaners, etc..
