An „Philosophy of the World“, dem Debütalbum der Shaggs von 1969, stimmt so ziemlich gar nichts: Die Gitarren sind verstimmt, der Gesang ist schief, der Rhythmus daneben. Trotzdem werden Original-Platten für bis zu 10.000 Dollar gehandelt. Wie kann ein so schlechtes Album diesen Kultstatus erreichen?

In de jaren 80 hadden we bands als #thepogues in de UK en #violentfemmes in de USA, en werd het genre nog niet bestempeld als folkpunk. We spraken over rock en punk muziek beïnvloed door folk.
Pas toen hardcore en punkbands folkinstrumenten gingen gebruiken spraken we over folkpunk. Met subgenres #celticpunk, #gypsypunk, #indiefolk en #antifolk.
Vooral dankzij het label #PlantitX en de #DIY scene en artiesten als #FrankTurner en #dropkickmurphys.
