Tumblr has recently decided that I *need* to see suggestive/sexual content on my dash right at the top, every time I open the app.

Oh good, they'll let me "snooze" this "feature" for 7 days before they'll automatically turn it back on.

What a bunch of user-hostile bullshit.

To be clear, I don't give a shit what a bunch of e-girls do on their own accounts. It's whatever. I just don't think I should have to see it if I don't want to.

If I am charging my regularly at non-peak, why do you constantly shame me about how much kWhr I Use?

If avg user, doesn't charge their EV at home
- why should I receive neg messaging when I charge at home more than avg?

Copy&Paste Programmierer sind die Pest. Erstellen 10+ Funktionen die sich nur in der Verwendung eines bestimmten Containers unterscheiden. Machen dadurch Code aufgeblähter und auf Dauer weniger wartbar.

This article on completely bloated tasks in software development is painful to read. I've seen this, too, but not to the very extreme cases as described here.

I think in the end it boils down to overplaying safety over everything else. Anybody calling such a mess "agile" should be taken outside and slowly beaten to death with a printout of the agile manifesto.

How is a "normal person" expected to navigate and actually consent to a load of things they are unlikely to understand?

All the problems with crappy agile summed up:
"I see it in all these complaints about agile, that they don't grasp that they were never given autonomy in the first place. It was always only lip service. " from a comment to news.ycombinator.com/item?id=3
If you don't have any autonomy in the organization, stickies on the wall won't help.

Got the results back from CodeMash on my talk and it was all 100% positive responses which means I must be doing something right. So the content will definitely stay in the talk on Deceptive Patterns & FAST.

I think "pop up a modal expladvertising the app's new feature when the user starts it" needs to be seen as a pattern or anti-pattern. It's annoying AF, and too many apps have done it to me recently.

If you can't find any way to avoid this thing, at least put in a link that lets me learn about it *later*, not just "learn more right now" (when I opened the app to perform some other task) or "forget about it forever" options.

There are several that can occur during and undermine their effectiveness (e.g., Blame game; No action taken; Lack of participation; Not staying focused; Same problems discussed repeatedly, etc.) It is important to recognize and avoid these anti-patterns in order to make the most of the Retrospective and continuously improve . scrum.org/resources/blog/using via

When users run into “magic” in the system, it’s great. When developers run into “magic” in the code, it’s a nightmare.

This is a sensitively-written and hugely insightful article by @ferrous

@atomicpoet @Are0h technologists understand , and the nature of means the user community over-indexes in people who confront (or further) anti-patterns all day, every day.

I think these dynamics have already been the subject of widely studied academic areas, such as organizational : winning hearts/minds with intent over process.

I bring all this up because I don’t think it’s hopeless.

What is the point of two-step password entry, where you enter username and password on separate screens? To me, this looks like a pure antipattern, because it offers no discernible benefits and conflicts with password managers.

Yet it's spreading everywhere, so someone must think it's a good idea. Why?

What a beautiful test.

Wrote a thing with no bug, wrote a test with no bug.

If we would've written a thing with a bug, we would've just as well written a test with a bug.
