One of the more obscure #antiquetools that I have (and use) is called a Cooper's plane.
A Cooper makes wooden casks, barrels, buckets, tubs, etc out of wooden staves.
A Cooper's plane is used to shave long pieces of wood flat so they can be joined to another piece. It has a hole near the end so it can be leaned against a wall or workbench.
The last picture shows my Cooper's plane with a few of my other planes for reference.

This one was made in the US. H. & J. W. King made tools and guns in the late 1800s. They were one of the many businesses based out of New York.
2/3 I removed the top from the base and got out one of my favorite hand planes.
As I got close to removing all of the damage I occasionally stopped to brush denatured alcohol over the top. This made the remaining damage more visible so I had a better idea of how much further to go.
I eventually reached a point where the damage was not immediately noticeable and I decided that there was enough top left that it would not need to be replaced, which made me happy.
1/3 As I get settled into my #workshop I'll provide more pictures of my work environment but for now just a few pictures of the tools that I use on my projects.
I use wood-bodied hand planes almost exclusively, however, I'll use my iron-bodied planes on projects around the house (non-restoration projects).
Other than hand planes, I use axes and adzes for #bowlcarving . I use drawknives on my shaving horse to make spindles, stakes, and such.

BTW, I'm a member of the Midwest Tool Collectors Association #MWTCA so if you are interested in finding some collectors to talk to, that would be the place to start.

I love this! I really appreciate the fact that you are talking us through your decision-making (filling in the grooves).
I can't wait for more on this.
