I’ve been told the #antisemitism and #antivaxx anti-mask attacks are my own fault, for speaking.

I’ve also been explicitly told that I don’t understand racism/equity.

In my opinion, advocacy as an MD and @OCDSB trustee should never lead to people saying they want to gas your family. But what do I know?

And despite it all - and sadly there is more, but I can’t talk about yet - here I am, still speaking.

When I ran for trustee, my signs were defaced with #antivaxx #antisemitic garbage. When I advocated for temporary masks in @OCDSB schools, the threats markedly worsened. For the most part, colleagues were silent.

No outcry. Not even checking in to see if I’m alright.

Weird? Not if you dismiss antisemitism.

I cannot imagine being silent. I would stand up to defend my colleague. In fact, I did, when it came to #antitrans hate. Which resulted in more attacks on me.

Imagine for a moment if a Black or Asian school board trustee were harassed for 9 months. Racial slurs. Death threats. White supremacists storming the board room. There would be an appropriate outcry.

As a Jew, that’s what happened to me in #Ottawa at @OCDSB.

#antivaxx arguments are not based in a defence of #bodily #autonomy btw and one clear indication of this is how much anti vaxx #discourse hinges on the figure of The #Child whom these people intend to 'protect' from #vaccination and often other #public #health interventions---which is to say, a #person they view as totally lacking autonomy, bodily and otherwise, and whose medical decisions they intend to make unilaterally. anti vaxx arguments are complicated but if i had to say they're 'about' just one thing i would argue it's #ableism. that it sometimes wears the rhetoric of bodily autonomy, religious #freedom, &c doesn't change the #fact that these positions are fuelled by a disregard for #disabled, #elderly, and young people's #safety in #society, and by continually stoked fears that vaccines are a kind of black-box #technology threatening to give The Child autism or other disabilities
