Today, a #lyft driver denied my wife and I a ride because we are #blind. My wife, having seen the car approach, asked if he was our driver. She was holding her long white cane. The driver said no, canceled the ride, and drove away. This was not even a service animal denial. This was discrimination against blind people using canes.
For the record, Lyft's policy acknowledges that it is against the law for drivers to turn away customers using mobility devices, including canes. Discrimination may result in the permanent deactivation of a driver's account.
In other words, drivers who break the law may be fired, not will. Lyft will consider standing against discrimination, but won't.
How long? Why are we waiting to take them to court? Why are we waiting to protest? Why is this still happening after nine years? What will it take for us to obtain justice? #nfb #ACB #AnyoneWhoWillFightWithUs!
