First time I've tried making #ANZAC #biscuits (#cookies) I don't keep golden syrup in the house so I substituted maple syrup. No shade to an AUS NZ classic by maple-ing it, but maybe it'll add a #Canadian touch eh? (They smell great)

Listening to Wesley Livesay's "History of the Great War," having reached the end of Gallipoli. #ANZAC Day description is particularly moving. (sniffle) Darn allergies, anyway.
People who pay attention in #Australia , or Brits who have studied World War I history, know that profiting from #FakeNews has been the ‘business model’ of the Murdoch family for OVER A CENTURY! 👉 https://insidestory.org.au/the-myth-of-keith-murdochs-gallipoli-letter/

Golden syrup is a common #baking ingredient in #British recipes (and in the Commonwealth) but it's very hard to find in the US.
I found a recipe for #Anzac biscuits I wanted to make, then I looked up golden syrup. It's also easy to make. So I made it.
Then I looked at the recipe for Anzac biscuits. It calls for TWO tablespoons.
#Australian Who Died in Ukraine Remembered by His Lera
Valeria 'Lera' Stepanenko and Sage 'Don' O’Donnell met during the war in Ukraine The young Australian lost his life there. On Australia’s #ANZAC Day, she recalls his sacrifice and love of #Ukraine

Remembering my Grand uncle Ralph Feldwick on ANZAC Day who was killed the first day after landing at Gallipoli 25 April 1915. Ralph served with the Canterbury Infantry Battalion, in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. His older brother Leslie, of the Otago Infantry Battalion NZEF, was also killed at Gallipoli a week later on May 2

Here's an #iNaturalist NZ observation I made today for ANZAC Day.
It's a Turkish Red Pine, a descendant from Gallipoli of the famous Lone Pine. It was planted in Akaroa in 2015 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landings at Gallipoli.
You can read more about the Battle of Lone Pine here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Lone_Pine

I will Raise An Eyebrow that a statue of Lachlan Macquarie is being used as a centre of ANZAC Day services at all, given the acts of war [crime] he ordered in the Hawkesbury

Looking at all wreaths being laid during the #Anzac Day Commemorations I can't help wonder how many lives they represent.
Then I wonder how many lives have been lost due to #Covid19 that are NOT being commemorated.
Then I wonder how much money WE spend on war and how much we spend on health.
We have many bombs but few cures.
@LaPenguin Very good!
"Lest we forget" is an old fashioned way of saying "So we don't forget". "Lest" was in more common use in the 19th century eg "Take a map with you lest you lose your way".
I suppose "Lest we forget" is the purpose of #Anzac commemorations, but it's become - I don't know - a sort of incantation people utter without knowing what they're actually saying, like singing "Auld Lang Syne" on New Years Eve.
The #ANZAC Day football tradition continues this afternoon when the #Pies take on the #Bombers in an
