I’m learning so much from the fire in our building last month and I’m partly surprised, but also not surprised that there isn’t anyone assigned to help you navigate through all the issues after the fire.
Like, there should be some kind of case worker that the city hires to help you figure out how to deal with insurance, your landlord, your apartment unit repairs and/or mold from water damage, and temporary housing, but there isn’t.

So the roof of the apartment building where I rent went up in flames last May 25 and I’m currently looking for another place to stay if anyone knows of a good sublet in Manhattan. Most of my stuff wasn’t damaged but water got all over the unit and the interior is now partially gutted.
I’ve been unable to get a time estimate for repairs from the landlord and wondering if anyone knows how long a roof rebuild of a small, hundred year old 5-story nyc walkup takes?
Morning walk at 9:30am. We’re still displaced due to the apartment building fire. We’re trying to make the most of our temporary stay on the UES and it’s day no. 8.
