How would early career researchers (ECRs) like to be involved in scholarly publishing, beyond by submitting papers as authors?
We identified many possible roles during our virtual brainstorming event with early career researchers and publishers prior to #ape2023 (the Academic Publishing in Europe Conference).

Thread: Early career researchers perspectives on improving scholarly publishing
We brought together publishers and early career researchers (ECRs) for 3 events, prior to & during the Academic Publishing in Europe conference (#ape2023), to explore opportunities to improve scholarly publishing and integrate ECRs into the publishing process.
This thread highlights 6 key take-aways:

Starting of the day with
“Publishers are sitting on a data goldmine”
“We can track even anonymous users, so you can hopefully identify them later”

I love this @OSFramework diagram - shared by @MsPhelps at #APE2023 & worth resharing here 😊
Innovation! 🫠
Clarivate will only publish the next citation report JIF with one decimal precision, as a way to reduce overconfidence in precision.
Why was it published with more decimals to begin with? Back in the seventies it was easier to sort numbers than alphabet but few decimals created conflicts - so they introduced more decimals to hack the sort
This afternoon, I will be speaking on #researchinfrastructure as a social norm in a panel at #ape2023 on "Innovation, technology and infrastructure"
with Nandita Quaderi (Clarivate) and Philipp Koellinger (VU/DeSci Labs), convened by @danielintheory.
Slides from all panelists will be shared later, for now, mine are here: https://tinyurl.com/ape2023-panel-kramer (some slides hidden to fit in 15 minutes :)

Attending #ape2023 this week in Berlin but seems the buzz is still on "the other" platform... :blobcatlul:
Nice to see Ulrich Dirnagl mention a lot of new initiatives at #APE2023 - including https://Researchequals.com
Fun fact: The Berlin Publishing Conference (“#APE2023”) is taking place in the old DDR government building.
Interesting that the publishers are active on birdsite tweeting about #APE2023 but not here.
Maybe they haven't noticed the birdsite is a dumpsterfire, or it resonates.
Who's up for catching up over ☕️ at #ape2023 in Berlin Tues/Weds this week? Anyone wants to talk fair and sustainable #openaccess? @ems_press #s2o #scholarlycoffee
