A woman who had no mindā€™s eye, a condition known as aphantasia, developed one after taking magic mushrooms, a psychedelic drug. The woman reported that she could see vivid images in her mind for the first time in her life, and that the effect lasted for months after the drug wore off. Psychedelics could have therapeutic potential for people with aphantasia, who may struggle with creativity, memory, and emotions.

Have there been any studies on parallels between (no conscious eyesight) and (no conscious mental imagery)?

fellow folks with how old were y'all when you realized that being able to picture things in your mind wasn't just a metaphor and people actually can visualize things in their mind?

i was in like my early 20s when i learned this tbh.

I have a couple of other - differences, I don't call them problems. I have and .
Yes, I can hear myself speak as I'm deciding what to type next.
If The Belovedā„¢ asks me how to spell a word, I can hear the letters spelled out as I tell her.
I only recently discovered that there are people who can close their eyes and "see" an object.
There isn't a fine line between "normal" and "neurodivergent" - it's a big, fat, drawn in crayon, blurry line.

As someone with I find coverage of it very strange "Imagine the inability to visualise a sandy beach, a stunning sunset or even the person that you love." I don't have to imagine! I just thought that was normal for most of my life bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-wilt

As a DM, I find dungeons tedious and boring to run. As a player, I feel the same - with the additional frustration of not bring in control.

This aversion to dungeons may be due to my aphantasia.

Question for those of you who have : Does it bother you to sleep in a bright room? Or do you need darkness to fall asleep?

Theory: Visual input is not as important to us, and we can ignore it easily. This may be a flawed question, but hey itā€™s Saturday morning.

Alogia is worse. Consider that all non-human animals have alogia (lack of words). Visual imagery is all they have. Want to remember something? They have to picture it, or recall the scent. The evolution of a complex internal verbal monologue may have taken up some extra brain capacity that used to be used for visual imagery, but the advantages outweigh not having words.

And we're changing. Einstein's brain had an extra fold in a part of the parietal lobe used for imagery and mathematical thinking. Feynman reported that he could see equations floating around when he was working. Visual imagery is good too, and we're gaining it back. But we need bigger brains.

(When I close my eyes all I see is darkness. I have a friend who sees monsters, so ... tradeoff.)

is one of those things that's so misunderstood because everybody assumes that everybody else is just like them in this regard. It wasn't until adulthood that I said, "Wait, you can do what?"
