Starting the week with something cheerful -- nature in New Cross. There's a narrow patch by the bus stop in front of student residences, where Knotted Hedge Parsley seems well established. Rare-ish, or at least uncommon, in #Apiaceae. iRecord shows it's part of a distinct SE London cluster. The seeds, which give it the alternative name Short Sock Destroyer, are staring to form. Puccinia smyrnii, a rust fungus, on Alexanders in #Apiaceae -- among the first in this family to flower in Britain and Ireland. It grows abundantly in areas near the sea, as here. Goldmiths campus, SE London -- a patch of lawn now maintained as long grass/whatever grows. In the first couple of years a good range of plants has come up. This is the remains of last year's Hemlock patch; this year's shoots already coming up through the fallen stems. #apiaceae .
