Ich habe eben die Doku über Apollo 17 gesehen aus der Sicht der Astronauten. Wahnsinnig spannend!

"Tim’s deep-seated belief in the power of our science, and his first-hand knowledge of what it meant to work together with a common vision, is what made him impervious to the fear [of articulating an ambition for our science that might communicate uncertainty].“
To pay tribute to Tim Palmer's manifold contributions to science, our director Bjorn Stevens has written an article in the Festschrift honoring Tim. Read through the posts yourself: bit.ly/42qXWFT

A plane-polarized light image of the Apollo 17 orange glass (sample 74220). The high-titanium glass spheres are 50-100 microns in size. These were magmas erupted as a 'fire fountain' on the mare basalt surface.

This sample was part of a collection of lunar sections that NASA lent to educational institutions in the US for teaching.

No quarantine for these guys. 50 years ago today, the crew were back in Houston to reunite with their families and headed back to work the next day.

Like astronaut Harrison Schmitt throwing his rock hammer before heading into the lunar module for the last time, we’re throwing this lunar panorama here. That’s all folks for !

Fifty years ago from now, the Apollo 17 command module landed safely in the Pacific Ocean, bringing to an end the Apollo lunar landings.

No person has been to the Moon for half a century now, and no person has travelled further than low Earth orbit in that time.

When splashed down in the Pacific, a recovery team was waiting on the USS Ticonderoga just 6.4 km (4 mi) away to pick up the astronauts and the lunar samples inside the CM.
