@enthusiast101
Certainly!
This is the big plus of using #flatpak or #appimages 😉
So one can get the newest version from upstream when available
I could, for example, run the latest #Firefox on my #Debian machine with ease. (I could of course get the tarball from mozilla directly)
#flatpak #appimages #firefox #debian
Do you guys use #Flatpak on your #Linux system? 🙂
Currently, I do not need external software - everything I need is in the repo or available in a external repo (#Debian)
Curious to know how your experiences are with #Flatpaks (Or #AppImages for that matter)
#flatpak #linux #debian #flatpaks #appimages
after a recent linux upgrade, i found that appimages stopped loading - double-click, nothing. the log complained that '#appimages require #fuse', which led me to the article at bottom - you still need fuse 2 even though the os has moved on to fuse 3.
sudo apt install libfuse2
only libfuse2, not fuse or any other package - those may remove bits of fuse 3 that you do need.
#appimage #fuse2 #fuse3

He de decir que las #appimages es una cosa que le ha sentado muy bien en el ecosistema #linux te permite ejecutar aplicaciones sin necesidad de instalar nada. Muy top
@fosserytech I use all of them. Simply put, I use whatever works for me (and I don't preach for one packaging format just cause the rest of the community does it)
#Snaps work (they aren't slow in my experience), #Flatpak works very well, #AppImages somewhat work, heck even #deb packages work too
This is my own experience, your experience may vary depending on your use case, preferences, or hardware specs
#snaps #flatpak #appimages #deb
@berkough I also like #Snaps too, in fact, I use it alongside #Flatpaks and #AppImages on #Ubuntu :ubuntu:
Idk why people always complain every chance they get. Sure, #Canonical needs to take a chill pill on the whole Snap thing and let the users have their choice but complaining about it 24/7 isn't gonna make things go anywhere 🤷
#snaps #flatpaks #appimages #ubuntu #canonical
@thelinuxEXP I just use whatever package managers/formats I want to use or that I think are useful to my daily use of my laptop
For example, I have Ubuntu :ubuntu: on my PC and I use a combination of #Snaps, #Flatpaks, #AppImages, #Debian packages, and even applications that were extracted from tar files! 📦
#snaps #flatpaks #appimages #debian
@msprout #Flatpaks genuinely work fine for me, don't get me wrong! But I feel like they are being preached way too much, the community thinking it's the only *BEST* packaging format (then proceeding to hate on Ubuntu and Snaps for no damn reason :blobcatglare:)
There are also #AppImages and #Snaps, I don't think people should forget those 📦
@hl0dwig Well to be fair, I had no issues with #snaps whatsoever, same with #flatpaks, #appimages, and even the native packages
But i do agree tho, Canonical at least should chill over this whole snap thing
Helgeprosjektet tok kort tid.
#linux #appimages #NitruxOS #allheimen
@GamePlayer Sounds good, I can also probably use #appimages if I wanted to (although I wish snaps could also get some more popularity)

Do you know an #application #store who can manage all the systems of app?
Example: I have #ubuntu with the #software #manager for #deb and #snap .
I installed also the #Gnome #appStore to install some #flatpack.
And some #appImages app by hand.
And know I'm lost !! Four app system to maintain ! That's too much. Any ideas?? How do you do?

Vous voyez le problème ??? 😅 🤓
#Reboost apprécié :) Merci

Last night, I made the switch from the default #anaconda to #calamares installer for the OS. There were some packages that secretly kept it from running
I also got some default #appimages, namely #firefox, #libreoffice, and a fully-set-up-with-theming-and-plugins #neovim, to install. I want this to eventually replace my #dailydriver, and those are tools I use.
I'm running into boot problems with Calamares (of course, I was running into boot problems with Anaconda too), so that's the next thing
#anaconda #calamares #appimages #firefox #libreoffice #neovim #dailydriver
Es gibt neben #snap und #flatpak auch noch #appimages .
Es sieht aktuell so aus, als würde sich #flatpak langfristig durchsetzen.
@jfml Why not use #flatpaks or #snaps, or even completely standalone #appimages? These are all always up to date, and you can even choose unstable branches in the install channels of snaps if you want bleeding edge software.
Anyone knows any good talk (to watch) about using #linuxdeploy to create #AppImages? #Linux
#linuxdeploy #appimages #linux
Okay, I think I got the laptops fresh #Fedora setup just as I like it now!
Plasma panel on top, clock in the middle (without LatteDock!!), dark mode on, favourite apps all #Flatpak and #AppImages, and got into a fight with the Plasma Browser Intergration!!
All I need is a wallpaper!!
5 years ago at #fosdem I told everyone #flatpak #snaps and #appimages were all terrible
Now I build @opensuse #microosdesktop which uses flatpaks from #flathub as it’s main application source
How does this make sense?
Find out at my talk at FOSDEM this year, I’ll be explaining all about what’s great (and what is still terrible) about these modern application package ecosystems
#fosdem #flatpak #snaps #appimages #microosdesktop #flathub
Finally figured out why #AppImages weren't opening on my new #UbuntuUnity installation. Turns out the libfuse2 package was missing, even though the It's Foss instructions were for #Ubuntu 22.04. 🤔
