Someone made a Mastodon client for the Apple II series! (Apple IIc, but probably will work on IIe/IIgs?)
https://www.colino.net/wordpress/en/binary-release-of-mastodon-for-the-apple-c/
Unfortunately it needs a raspberry pi with a serial to usb cable to get online. Maybe they will add Uthernet II support for IIe/IIgs users who have one, someday!
Installed the backlit keyboard from MacEffects! took about 15 mins. It does work with the FloppyEMU switcher, as well as the Mockingboard! #AppleIIc #Apple #RetroComputing

@mrcopilot Works beautifully in Lynx in ShellFish (no JavaScript , no styling) .
I need to try this on the #AppleIIc via ProTerm later.
Reading some stuff on #UseNet on #AppleIIC like an average Tuesday in 1985
- Via ProTerm 3.1 on a 19200 Bauds serial link to Linux box and telnet to telehack.com
- Didn’t live this as I was 10 in 1985 and a year away from my first computer (a C64 which never connected to a BBS sadly)
Took me a while to understand why borders weren’t drawing correctly in ProTerm. Turns out the default LANG value is now UTF-8 and of course in #AppleIIc days there were no such things. Set locale to en_US for a dedicated user which forces ISO8859 and now I have nice borders in midnight commander
YEEEEEEEEEEES !
Removing the RIFA capacitor brought the Apple IIC Monitor back to life !
Thanks to everyone who suggested this
TIL about blown up RIFA capacitors:
“The capacitor technically isn't needed, so you are ok if you just cut it out.”
“The downside of no filter cap is that you Apple II will mess with the reception of your AM/FM radio if it is too close to the computer. ;) It is all about noise coming FROM the computer. (..) Your typical household devices these days are not adversely affected by the noise.”

Finally took some time and courage to open the dead Apple IIc monitor. Didn’t reach the famous RIFA capacitors yet but I found a 315ma fuse that was dead. It was held in a weird plastic piece . Did people do that back then or was this a cheap repair ?
I’ll start by ordering this fuse for now. Maybe I’ll be lucky.
So I assume this sound when writing on a new blank DSDD disk on #AppleIIc is bad right ? I assume that X means it failed to write anything. ?
Anyone familiar with this ?
Bad news: I lost 300 $ and potentially a lot of time.
Good news: I may soon have a proper reader on my desk to read Gemini pages in a 9600 baud terminal (once I get my serial cables to hook it to a :rpi:)
#Appril2 is drawing to a close - here is my contribution: Some #AppleIIc improvements

It was the other day. Stephen Arsenault gave me an Apple IIc. This was not recognized by the floppy and did not work at all. First I replaced the original 255 ROM to 4x and when I run the diagnostics there are no RAM errors. Next, I replaced IWM… geez it works well😂 it was very lucky #AppleIIc
