One of these days, I shall surely get around to doing reviews on for apps I use that do not yet have an entry! Drives me crazy when I search for something and it hasn’t yet been reviewed!

Good morning! @accessibleandroid

I don't think y'all are among the community, but I just wanted to pass along the below link, since I mentioned y'all over there. I think it's my third time mentioning thy peeps of said project among said walls.

FYI: The thread I didn't create myself, but it's the first comment on page three of said thread:

I tried looking on the website but didn’t see it listed. I was listening to the Maccessibility podcast and heard @Robin mention Lire. I’ve also read positive reviews on the AppleVis forum and app directory for Fiery Feeds.

Hello everyone,
Some weeks back I have started thinking about making an alternative of sorts to , and so, server was born. Please read below for more information

Motivation

AppleVis was the de-facto resource for every user, new or seasoned who wanted to get help, information or exchange about their Apple software and hardware. And while App Directory, podcasts and reviews created by the staff and the users are exceptional, I feel that AppleVis fell behind if it comes to the community part. I have spoken to many people in my circles, some less technical than others, and all of them agree that the community part of the website is clunky and hard to use. First of all, it is hard to create a website about mobile devices without good mobile device support. While one can open the Safari browser, navigate to the website and interact with the content, the experience is slower and far inferior to what could be done with more modern services and techniques, and this is where Accessible Apple comes in.
is a multiplatform chatting service available on and allowing users to chat in groups, called servers. Each of those servers have channels, which can be considered sub-forums, and on those channels everyone can create topics and participate in existing discussions either via text or via voice. This makes it possible to enjoy Accessible Apple on all of your devices, no matter where you are, what you are doijng and what is your preferred method of operation. If you want to read more about Discord, you can do so [here](applevis.com/apps/ios/social-n)
Frequently asked questions
Q: There's only one administrator and that's you.
A: Yeah, but there's no point as there's literally noone else there, yet.
Q: Where are the rules?
A: They are not existent yet. Just please be a human.

Is being hacked? Originally, I was unable to find the search. When I did, the results were very poorly formatted with no headings or metadata. Then, when I and others posted about it, those posts got deleted. This has been within the past hour or so.

So I don't know if many Apple developers, or app developers for Apple devices, know about this site. But if you want to see a community of blind people that have formed around Apple devices, Applevis has you covered. They not only have a forum and blog, but a directory of accessible apps, across all of Apple's devices. They also have a bug tracker, user submitted guides, a podcast, hardware reviews, and developer resources! They're even on Mastodon, @AppleVis

So as I was reading the progress report for devices, I caught a few mentions of how Google has their user testing group and gathers feedback, and how some users are eagerly watching Android now. And I hope it delivers a good kick in the pants to the leadership at Apple. Apple is constantly saying that "Accessibility is a part of our DNA." "Music is a part of our DNA." Well, that DNA is degrading fast, and I'm so, so glad I'm not the only one that's experiencing a buggy, unoptomized experience on just about all of my Apple devices. Granted, Mac is still great for email, writing, and editing audio. Not because of VoiceOver, but because of the apps available on the Mac. iOS is still a great accessible OS, mainly because of the amount of options Apple gives developers in showing info, and the amount of apps for the blind that has been made for Apple devices over the years. Apple Watch is basically the only good smart watch out there for the blind. But if Android can get to this point, while *preserving* the clean, bug-free experience that it has now, well I could see quite a few blind people switching to Google. I mean I doubt ChromeOS is going anywhere great soon, and Windows is already what blind people grit their teeth and deal with already. So a phone that lets them text from the web browser, transfer files from File Explorer? It wouldn't be a hard choice if accessibility is improved. Also I'm not blaming the accessibility team. I'm sure they bring up that they need more resources any chance they get. But if something better comes along, that allows me, personally, to do my job better, or to be happier when using it, or that works faster? I'm jumping on it.

So I see from the newsletter that has its own reader app for iOS now. Has anyone used it? I wonder if it has any benefits over Voicedream reader. I'll stick with Voicedream for now, but I am curious.

According to a paywalled tweet from display supply chain analyst Ross Young, the new MacBook Air would have a 15.5-inch display, a change from his previous 15.2-inch display prediction. It is expected to be released in the spring of 2023.

Still keeping up with Twitter more than Mastodon. Things haven't yet taken that widely predicted nosedive. I follow pretty sensible people on the whole. Learned that Applevis awarded golden apples to Envision AI and Evidence 111. Both pretty respectable choices I think. Wish there was an award which really evaluated effort put into accessibility. Some great apps have gone unrecognized over the years.
