@georgetakei When will Democrats tire of being the "lesser evil" and get on the ball with real voting reform starvoting.org that would let people vote for third parties EVEN TO THE POINT OF ELECTING THEM, unlike the distraction which only works to shed a spoiler who couldn't win, is excessively complicated, yet the darling of the Establishment (who could just put it forward anytime but doesn't act *until* they need to block or grassroots groups.)

@lkanies @mph Yeah I think that's a damage the volunteers on the charter commission have after suffering so many plurality-winner mayors they wish they could weaken. My take on that is, why not use a good voting method like (plus top-2) or and actually elect a popular mayor, then they just do what most people want?

@tcely @serenebabe It's really not meaningful to talk about 3rd party candidates as anything but spoilers unless we're simultaneously talking about good voting reform like or . It doesn't particularly matter what their values or platform are. They're just a torpedo.

@GreenFire the political shift to accomplish a is going to require a shift to in local transport policy of major cities/metros to make work and undercut the oil/auto/hwy/finance money. Needs and/or at city & state level to get majority rule instead of splitting progressives. We're letting the media pick the mayor, governor, etc because we don't have 1 pre-selected favorite that plurality/rank choice require.

lol lock him up is pretty funny, but remember it's your stupid "choose only one" voting method that keeps you locked in the two-party system and the simplest way to fix it is cross out the "only one" part (i.e. ), and jailing your political enemy wouldn't be such a concern (or excuse for bi-partisan pearl clutching) especially when they do criminal things

Again we see the problem with voting that only lets you select one option. What does it take to enable polls on here?

It's hard to imagine how a serious tabulation error like this could happen with , it's such a simple and powerful voting method. Yet another drawback of the misguided push for .

@hudsonplaskoff IRV doesn’t do much about this. Look at the recent Alaska House elections where extremist Palin was a spoiler for the majority of Alaskans who preferred Begich to Peltola. and voting address this better.

@teemo People call it simple, but then ask them to describe what happens to a candidate that gets ranked 2nd by every single voter. Simple to fill out a ballot and simple to understand the mechanics and subtleties of tally procedure are very different varieties of understanding. Compare that to, say, the simplicity of , where it’s basically impossible to misunderstand how to fill out the ballot or how it gets counted.

@teemo while the US desperately needs voting reform, IRV is the least good way to do it. It doesn’t fix spoilers or vote splitting. It supports two-party dominance. It’s logistically difficult to tabulate, which makes it insecure and less trustworthy. It sometimes produces paradoxical outcomes, which voters dislike. And it favors candidates on the extremes. or fix many of these deficiencies. electionscience.org/library/th
